Zakuro-ishi (Almandine) Makabe-cho, Ibaraki-ken |
| Zakuro-ishi (gPometranate stoneh in Japanese) has perfect trisoctahedron shape as if it is machine polished. Dull-red color and its roundish shape really remind us of pomegranate pieces Zakuro-ishifs English name ggarneth derives from Latin word gGanatush which means gpomegranate-likeh. It is interesting that countries in the East and the West call the stone same way. Commonly the mineral used for red jewelry is pyrope. |
